More… Suggested Itinerary
Day 1 > Pick up your motorhome at Cruise America in Los Angeles. A drive of almost 4 hours on the main Route 101 road will bring you to the KOA, where you will spend the first night. They call the surroundings of Santa Barbara the “Riviera of America”, so its beaches and restaurants are naturally; a stop to make on your route. ? 240 miles to Santa Margarita ? Visit Chumash Painted Cave to see some of the most complex and colorful cave paintings dating back five hundred to a thousand years. www.koa.com/campgrounds/santa-margarita/
Day 2 > Go 11 miles back on 101, turning toward the Pacific Ocean, and follow the spectacular Route 1 to San Luis Obispo. After about an hour, you will see the signs indicating Hearst Castle and you can then check in to your campsite. Then spend some time in the ambitious 'crazy' building built by newspaper magnate, billionaire William Randolph Hearst, or enjoy the beaches of San Simeon. ? 55 miles to Hearst Castle ? Visit San Luis Obispo. They abbreviate their name to SLO, meaning 'slow' like the word 'slow'. Enjoy the relaxed Southern California lifestyle. https://goo.gl/WhUipp
Days 3/4 > Head north on Route 1, one of the most scenic routes in the world. Stop in Carmel and Monterey and don't miss the 17-mile drive that hugs the Pacific coast and passes famous golf courses and mansions in Pebble Beach. You are on your way to San Francisco, your camp is located 15 miles from the city and you can take the bus and BART near the camp to the city to explore it. ? 230 miles to San Francisco ? Visit Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, where there are huge trees that are over a thousand years old. www.sanfranciscorvresort.com
Head east towards Yosemite. This is one of the most famous National Parks and no visit to California would be complete without seeing its wonderful landscapes. The journey is not long, probably taking less than 3 hours on the Interstate. We recommend Yosemite Pines RV as the place to spend the night, or as many nights as you wish to stay here. The campground is an hour's drive from the west entrance. However, because Yosemite's three-quarters of a million acres have few roads, you can see Yosemite's valleys and rock formations, lakes, waterfalls, and highest peaks while still having access to all of the facilities. and being able to refuel and connect your vehicle for when you return to camp. ? 150 miles to Groveland, Yosemite National Park ? Visit Bridal Veil and Yosemite Falls, and if you can, make the 2.5-mile hike to Inspiration Point. It may take some time because it is a steep hike, but you will be rewarded with a classic view of Yosemite Valley flanked by El Capitan and Half Dome peaks. https://yosemitepinesrv.com/
Return to Yosemite and this time head through Yosemite to take scenic Route 395 south on the other side. This road connects so many important places that it has its own website – 395.com. Shortly after leaving Yosemite, you will pass through three National Parks: Kings Canyon, Death Valley and Sequoia. You will also pass Mt. Whitney, which is the highest point in the continental United States. It can almost be seen from the lowest point, which is located in Death Valley's Badwater Basin. ? 285 miles to Lone Pine ? Visit Manzanar. It contrasts with the natural beauty that surrounds it, being the site of the training camp that hosted 10,000 occupants during the Second World War. If the weather is nice, you might also want to take a short detour to Death Valley or Lake Havasu. Check it out on page 22. www.bouldercreekrvresort.com
Continue south on 395 through the Sierra Nevada and then into the flatter lands of the Mojave Desert. This three-hour trip is very pleasant. Stay overnight in the town of Barstow, situated at an intersection where The Old Spanish Trail and Route 66 once passed. Most visitors come here to see one of its two shopping malls and their hundreds of stores. ? 160 miles to Barstow ? Take the shuttle bus from the KOA to the abandoned silver mining town of Calico. www.koa.com/campgrounds/barstow
Campland on the Bay is the most prestigious campground in San Diego. Feel the sand of a private beach with your feet. Top up your tan and have fun on one of the marina's sailboats and enjoy dozens of activities and attractions for kids and adults. Everyone loves Campland! ? 185 miles to Campland ? Visit the historic Coronado; the San Diego Zoo and the waterfront. Tijuana, Mexico's restaurants and gift shop are popular places to visit at night. www.campland.com Today you will leave for another beach resort, located in Newport Beach. Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina is a 110-acre resort at the entrance to the Back Bay Nature Preserve, home to the best RV Park and Marina in Southern California. Enjoy this beachfront location with the possibility of swimming and recreation for children. Rent a sailboat or electric boat, or explore Back Bay by kayak. ? 90 miles to Newport Beach ? Check the events calendar if you visit, as something is always happening in Newport Beach from the world's oldest international yacht race to the critically acclaimed film, jazz or wine festivals: Film Festival, Jazz Festival, Wine Festival and more . www.newportdunes.com
